#MarchMeetTheMaker - Day 9

Today is Learning Curve

There was one big earning curve for me which I have mentioned a few times in the past and that is when I did my first Pop-Up Shop.

It is coming up to 5 years ago now (yes, scary!) and I rented out a shop in Kendal for 2 weeks to showcase and sell my work. This came at a time when I had only been running The Pink Flamingo for just under 10 months and I was still VERY new to it and looking back, very inexperienced. Still, I gave it my all and it was one of the best things I ever did! It's scary to put your work and yourself out there for the first time, not knowing how people will receive it.

I learned so many things, including how to dress up a shop, how to showcase my work, how to sell my work, how to get customers in when all people want to do is nosey through the window (that's not going to sell anything is it!) Running a small business is hard, so hard and I didn't realise that until the Pop up Shop. That doesn't mean that I didn't love every second!

I took feedback and ideas on what to make next, I made sales and I made friends! I still (before lockdown!) take part in Christmas Fairs and Prom Art etc and each time is a new learning curve. Sometimes you make loads of sales and others you don't even make your pitch fee. But it's about getting out there and giving it a go. I hadn't been doing The Pink Flamingo long when I did my first Pop-up Shop but I do believe that played a big part in the business I am running today!
