How To: Mask Make

How To...MASK MAKE! I have been busy mask making, it's a good way to use up any unwanted scraps of cotton fabric and to give to those in need of help! Please note: I have taken these mask patterns and ideas from a mixture of Youtube videos and by looking at a medical mask in person. These are great for anyone who wants extra cover whilst out and about/doing your daily exercise / nipping to the shops. But they are not tested medical masks!! I have simply just used the idea from a youtube video for anyone isolated at home and wanting a bit of protection for when you need to go out and about. Or anyone just in need of something to do / sew! The Youtube Videos I watched: https://www.youtube.com/

#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 31: #FAQ🦩 Today is the last "MeetTheMaker" post. I have really enjoyed doing them, not only because it's given me something to focus on everyday for the pasty few weeks, but its given me a direction to my recent posts. Hopefully you've enjoyed reading them and I've noticed that I've gained a few new followers! But it also gives you a bit of background on "The Pink Flamingo" and me as a person! 🙋🏼‍♀️ Today's topic is FAQs, I do get asked a certain few questions over and over so I will try and answer them here. Q1. Why Sewing? 🧵 Because I love it! As much as I love drawing, painting, baking (generally making a mess!) Sewing is the one that gets me out of bed in a mo

#MarchMeetTheMaker 🌈 Day 30 : #WorkLifeBalance (2nd to last post!) This is something that I think everyone battles with getting right. You feel guilty because you're at work or you feel guilty because you're not working!🤷🏼‍♀️ Up until recently I didn't really have much of a work life balance, but this is something I am working on and trying to get right. Life's too short to be working all the time! I am lucky (and it's such a cliche!) that my Sewing doesn't feel like work. I know there's pros and cons of turning your hobby into a Day Job (just say one day I decide hate it and never want to Sew again!!?) 😳😟 but because I love it so much, it doesn't feel like work... #MarchMeetTheMaker Day 29: #SelfPromotion What the hell does that mean? 😆 I've been trying to do these posts without copying other peoples ideas. And trying to write them how I interpret the prompt / #. I'm not really one for bigging myself up or wanting to be the centre of attention or even one for #selfpromotion but I am one for chucking myself in at the deep end and hoping for the best. I set up this business nearly 5 years ago and it started with one pair of shorts and almost over night became a business. was 4 months into my business before I even realised I'd started one! And even though it's tough at times, no more so than at the minute with all the uncertainty surrounding small busi

#MarchMeetTheMaker Yesterday, Day 28: #Planning Those of you that know me, know that I love a good plan! Nothing ever goes to plan, but I like to have a plan in place anyway! 🤓 I am forever making lists and never finishing them, so I just add my old list onto my new list! 📝😆 As for planning and being organised with "The Pink Flamingo", I do like to have a routine and a schedule in place, but that does have to be flexible because odd jobs and work always crop up. So I do try and plan my week with enough free time to fit in blog posts, social media posts, my Sewing Classes, existing orders and any new orders that might appear as the week goes on. Plus any extra shifts that I might g

#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 27: #FutureGoals 🌈 This seems so surreal to even be thinking about the future when everything is so uncertain. I have always used to want my own Sewing Shop, a proper "Shop Front" and a place to call my own. Running my Pop up Shop back in 2016 was fun but it did make me realise how unpredictable the High Street is. Which is why I concentrate on my Markets and Online Sales. I am more than happy with my "Sewing Room" for the time being. I've finally got a place where I can make mess and everything is just how I want it! I have Flamingo Wall Paper, A peg board, A "Wall of Fame" and a cupboard full of rolls of fabric and everything to keep me inspired! 🦩💕🍉🧵 Right now

#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 26th: #ThisorThat Today is a bit of a random one, what does "This and That" mean? But I thought I would tie it in with the Blog post I had lined up for today anyway. Because it's fair to say, my Etsy shop is full of "This and That!" Not only do I love Sewing, but I love to share my love of Sewing! ❤️🧵 Since I started teaching my sewing classes, I also added a "Haberdashery & Crafts" section to my Etsy shop, for those of you that share my love of a pretty button or a string of pompoms. I stock everything from basic sewing equipment to get you started (packs of needles, Embroidery Scissors (novelty of course!) Unpickers etc) But I also sell an array of Retro iron on pat

#MarchMeetTheMaker Day 25 : #HowisitMade? It is made with LOVE! It has always been a well known fact that my clothing items are Handmade from scratch. "From Scratch" being the main thing here. I do use shop bought Dress Making patterns but more often than not, I do draft my own paper patterns, either from existing patterns or existing garments in my wardrobe and then I alter them to how I want them. I sew all my items on my Sewing machine with a bit of hand stitch here and there. And I hand make my own paper hanging tags, I designed my own website and parcel up and post my own items. Everything is done by hand and I wouldn't want it any other way! Everything is definitely Made with Love (and

#TuesdayTips

As promised... 🎉 This weeks #TuesdayTips I’m going to try and keep this post running as regularly as possible. Just to update you with any facts or tips that will help you sew whilst you’re at home! 🧵🏠 This is a screen shot from a video I saw, Unfortunately it was in another language, hence the screen shots rather than the link! 🤣 But this person has placed a needle through their fabric, to create a gap wide enough to thread their fabric handmade “bias binding” through. This holds it in place + folds in the outer edges whilst ironing it. As you all know, because I talk about “bias binding” a lot! I also get asked the best way to make it a lot too. You can get little tools that make it fo

#MarchMeetTheMaker2020 Day 24: #PersonalTouch To see my video: https://facebook.com/Thepinkflamingodesigns/… My very first video! I've always fancied myself as a bit of a vlogger and so I used todays # as my opportunity to be one! 🤣 As you all know, I'm not isolated, due to being a "Key Worker". But when I am not at work, I am isolating as much as possible! So I thought I'd take the chance to catch up with you all over social media. Possibly make this a regular thing and get some ideas for makes and virtual sewing classes up and running, whilst I can't teach you face to face. ♥️✂️🧵 Please distract yourself from my Northern accent with my FLAMINGO WALL PAPER! 🦩🤣 PS- I promise once I'm ful
